UDC Division Convention: October 2009 and Tarboro History Days: September 2009
Poole Family Ceremony in Tyrrell County, NC May 30, 2009: DIrected and organized by UDC member Kim Riggs at the Albemarle Church of Christ in Tyrrell County. A Confederate Iron Cross was dedicated for her ancestor, Thomas G. Poole; and the UDC WWII Cross of Military Service was presented to her grandfather, Thomas Rudolph Poole of Beaufort County. Kim's husband and Honorary Chapter Member, Gary Gene Riggs, was presented the Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal for his untiring work to preserve Confederate History as it relates to the medical field.
Confederate Memorial Ceremony, May 9, 2009: Cherry Hill Cemetery in Greenville, NC. Our chapter dedicated a UDC Real Daughter Marker for Mary Louise Hyman. We placed a wreath of red and white roses at the unknown soldiers' marker and marked 41 Confederate graves with 1st National flags. Following that, we drove to Trinity Cemetery in Chocowinity, NC and placed a wreath of red and white roses at the Maj. Gen. Bryan Grimes Monument.
