The Diary of Alonzo Etheridge Bell was transcribed and published by the ladies of the George B. Singletary UDC Chapter 313 in 2005. The source of the transcript for this book comes from an original diary written by Lieutenant Alonzo Etheridge Bell, Co. I, 32nd Regiment N.C. Troops. This wartime diary was kept from August 23, 1861 through January 20, 1862. While keeping the diary, Lieutentant Bell was engaged in the Battle at Fort Hatteras where he was captured and held as a Confederate prisoner of war at both Fort Columbus and Fort Warren.
