George Griffin Aycock was born in Brunswick Co. VA, just a few miles above the NC/VA border. On August 16, 1861, he
crossed into North Carolina and enlisted in Warren Co, NC at age 22. He enlisted in Co. B, 30th Infantry Reg North Carolina.
He served the duration of the war and was received a gunshot wound to the thigh and was hospitalized on April 1, 1865
at Farmville, VA. He is listed as a POW at the hospital on April 15, 1865 where he remained until discharged from Co. B
30th Infantry Reg. on June 9, 1865. Following his discharge he married Holland Annie Rose on December 22, 1870
and resided in Johnston County, NC and Wake County, NC where his occupation was farming. On April 17, 1900 he died in
Wake County, NC. Two days later his wife Holland also died and they were buried together at the Rowland-Aycock Cemetery
in Raleigh, Wake Co, NC. Private George G. Aycock is listed on his regiment's Roll of Honor.

Aycock, Edward S., PVT, NC Infantry, Co. B 30th Reg, (Patricia Aycock Williams, Great Grandniece)
Edward S. Aycock was born Sept 30, 1840 along the NC/Virginia border to parents William M. Aycock and Nancy Pattillo.
In 1850 the family, along with brothers George Griffin and Edward S. Aycock, are found living in Warren County, NC. After
William M. Aycock's death, Nancy and sons are found in 1860 living in Brunswick Co, VA. It should be noted that Brunswick
County VA and Warren Co NC are just across the border from each other. Edward S. Aycock enlisted as a private on
16 August 1861 at the age of 21 in Warren County, NC. He enlisted in Co. B, 30th Regiment NC Infantry. Present or
accounted for until paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on April 9, 1865. Listed on Roll of Honor for NC 30th Reg.
as a volunteer age 21 from Virginia. Awarded Cross of Honor by Francis S. Bartow Chapter Daughters of the Confederacy
in 1906. Waycross and Ware p43. His obituary is found in Confederate Veteran magazine, Vol. XXXlll, Jan.1925, Page 28.

Barnhill, James H., PVT, NC Cavalry, Co. I 3rd Cavalry (41st Reg), (Cynthia Manning Smith, Great Great Great Grandniece)
James H. Barnhill was born c. 1829 in Pitt County, NC. He was a blacksmith by trade prior to enlisting for Confederate service.
He enlisted in Co. I 3rd Cavalry NC (41st Reg) on 12 February 1862 at Raleigh, NC. He was discharged on 6 May 1862 at
Camp Ransom near Kinston, NC by reason of chronic pneumonia.

Barrow, James F. (Franklin), PVT, NC Infantry, Co. C, 27th Regiment (Janet Nethercutt Craig, Great Great Grandniece;
Karen Marie Nethercutt, Great Great Grandniece)
James Franklin Barrow was born in 1843 in Lenoir County. He was the son of John Barrow (1805-1857) and Elizabeth "Betsy" Herring (1813-1883). He enlisted at age 18 on 17 April 1861 in Lenoir County, NC in Co. C 27th Infantry. He was present or accounted for until he died at Camp Jackson on July 10, 1862. Cause of death is not reported.

Barrow, Jesse H. (Heath), PVT, NC Infantry, Co. C 27th Regiment (Janet Nethercutt Craig, Great Great Granddaughter;
Karen Marie Nethercutt, Great Great Granddaughter)
Jesse Heath Barrow was born Jan 3, 1834, Lenoir County, NC.
He was the son of John Barrow (1805-1857) and Elizabeth "Betsy" Herring (1813-1883). He enlisted as
a private on 25 April 1861 at the age of 29 in Company C, 27th Infantry Regiment North Carolina.
Wounded on 14 October 1863 at Bristoe Station, VA (gunshot wound to right elbow joint).
Returned on 30 January 1865 (Estimated day). Retired to Invalid Corps, Goldsboro, Feb. 3, 1865.
Jesse H. Barrow married Mary Ann Lindley Williams, 12/12/1867, Greene County, NC.
Mary Ann Lindley Williams was born in Chatham County, NC and was left a widow with two children
after her first husband, Levi Williams, was killed in the Civil War. She went to Bucklesberry area of
Lenoir County after Levi Williams' death to teach in a field school where she met Jesse.
Jesse Heath Barrow died, Oct. 25, 1905 in Craven Co. NC, and is buried at Arba in Hull Road Cemetery.

Barrow, Simon P. (Parrott), PVT, NC Infantry, Co. C, 27th Regiment (Janet Nethercutt Craig, Great Great Grandniece;

Simon Parrott Barrow was born ca. 1841 in Lenoir County, NC. He was the son of John Barrow (1805-1857) and Elizabeth
"Betsy" Herring (1813-1883). He enlisted at age 22 at New Bern, NC on 20 June 1861 in Co. C 27th Reg NC Infantry.
He was killed at Wilderness, VA on or about May 5, 1864.

Bowen, Henry Hunter, PVT, Confederate States Marine Corps (Laura Elizabeth Oden, Great Great Great Granddaughter)
Henry Hunter Bowen was born February 11, 1823 in the Long Acre Community of Washington County, North Carolina.
His parents were William and Rhoda Respess Bowen. His life-long occupation was that of a farmer. On December 7,
1848 he married Nancy"Ann" Latham Boyd of the same community. She was born in 1824 and was the daughter of
Zachary and Mary Latham Boyd. At the time he entered Confederate service, he was 41 years of age, and he and wife
Ann had four living children in the home. He was initially sent to Camp Holmes outside of Raleigh NC on October 3,
1864. He was subsequently transferred to Charleston, South Carolina as a Marine recruit aboard the receiving ship
Indian Chief for the ironclad CSS Columbia. In a series of letters published by the Beaufort County Genealogy
Society in their journal, Pamteco Tracings, Henry Hunter's wife Ann writes with questions on what to do with the
crops and livestock and also with news of what is happening in the nearby town of Plymouth, NC. Henry Hunter
writes back with advice on farming and news of the war in South Carolina. According to Encyclopedia of Virginia
Biography, Henry Hunter Bowen served until the surrender at Appomattox and was taken prisoner by Federal Forces
once. Henry Hunter Bowen returned to his family farm in Washington County, NC after the war. He passed away on
his 84th birthday. He is buried in the William Bowen graveyard in the Long Acre Community near the
Washington/Beaufort County line.

Brewer, James (W.), PVT, NC Infantry, Co. E, 27th Regiment, (Jennifer Pogoda Chappell, Great Great Granddaughter)
James Brewer was born circa 1840 and resided in Pitt County. He enlisted in 27th NC Infantry on April 20, 1861 at Pitt
County, NC, and transferred to Company E of this regiment the same date. Promoted to musician (drummer) on
June 20, 1861, but was reduced to ranks in November 1862 - October 1862. Wounded in the head June 1864 when
he was wounded at Ream's Station, VA. Returned to duty in November-December 1864. Present or accounted for
until wounded in the breast at or near Fort Stedmon VA on March 25, 1865. Captured in hospital in Richmond
April 3, 1865. Transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland where he arrived on May 6, 1865. Released on June 26,
1865 after taking the oath of allegiance. After the war he married Lizzina Corbett on 14 March 1872.
He died in 1904 and is buried in Pitt County, NC. There is a record of a widow's or child's pension application.

Brooks, Henry Francis, PVT, NC Infantry, Co. G 67th Regiment, (Mildred Brooks Bowers, Granddaughter)
Henry Francis Brooks was born 11 April 1846 in Lenoir County, NC. He was married on 30 Oct 1881 to Eliza Frances
"Franny" Patrick (3/16/1856-11/13/1938). Henry F. Brooks enlisted at Camp Burney near Greenville, NC on Feb 1, 1864
for the war at age 19. Reported present or accounted for through June 30, 1864. Name appears on a bounty payroll
dated August 8, 1864. No further records. His wife, Fannie Brooks of Pitt County, NC was approved a widow's pension.
Henry died on 1 October 1917 and is buried in Ayden, NC.

Faithful, Joseph J., PVT, NC Cavalry, Co. K 3rd Cavalry 41st Reg, (Jennifer Pogoda Chappell, Great Great Granddaughter)
Joseph J. Faithful was born in 1824 in Edgecombe County, NC. On July 19, 1851 he married Sarah Jane Pitt.
He was a farmer by occupation. He enlisted at age 38 on May 16, 1862 in Company K, 3rd NC Cavalry.
He was "shot and killed in attempting to escape from guard sent to arrest him, January 15, 1864."

Graham, Neil F., 1st Sergeant, Co. K 6th Regiment, South Carolina Cavalry (Angela Rogers Reid, Great Great Great Grandaughter)
Neil F. Graham was born September 20, 1822. On March 29, 1849 he married Susan Hough of Chesterfield Co. SC. He joined for Confederate duty and enrolled on Dec. 21, 1861 in Chesterfield District, SC, at age 39. He appears on a company muster-in roll for 9th Battalion SC (Capt. Neill F. Graham's Company, South Carolina Volunteers) dated Jan 27, 1862, with a rank of Captain. Pay vouchers show him bei ng paid thru May of 1862. He then is mustered into 6th Regiment SC Cavalry on Nov. 1, 1862, Adams Run in Chesterfield Co, SC at age 40, with a rank of 1st Sergeant. Present or accounted for until the Sept/Oct 1864 company muster roll where he is listed as absent and detached at Stoney Creek with disabled horses since 12 Oct 1864. He is subsequently listed as a Prisoner of War, being captured at Stoney Creek on December 1, 1864. He was released May 12, 1865. The 26th Regiment SC Infantry was formed by the consolidation of the 6th Battalion SC Infantry with the 9th, and Captain N. F. Graham is also shown on a roster for the 26th Regiment SC Vols, that roster being dated Sept 8, 1864. Neil F. Graham died May 20, 1904 and is buried at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Chesterfield Co, SC.

John Humphrey Griffin was born 12 January 1830 in Martin Co, NC. He enlisted in Martin County, NC at age 32 on
10 March 1862. Present or accounted for through October 1864.

William J. Griffin was born Sept. 27, 1841 in Martin County, NC. He resided in Martin County NC where he enlisted
at the age of 20 on Oct. 8, 1861. Captured at Roanoke Isand on Feb. 8, 1862. Paroled at Elizabeth City on
Feb. 21, 1862. Wounded by minnie ball to right shoulder at Drewry's Bluff, VA on May 16, 1864. Admitted
General Hospital, Howards Grove, VA on May 17, 1864. Furloughed 60 days. Appears on a report at General
Hospital Camp Winder, Richmond VA on Nov. 30, 1864. Furloughed 60 days. Captured at Jamesville, NC
on Dec 10, 1864. POW. Confined at Point Lookout, MD. Exchanged Feb 10, 1865 at Camp Lee near
Richmond VA. Admitted to Wayside Hospital, Richmond VA Feb 14, 1865. Received Certificate of Disability
for retiring invalid soldiers March 14, 1865. Soldiers application for pension approved Fourth Class.
Married Sarah Jane Coltrain on Jan. 20, 1866. Sarah Jane was born Oct. 3, 1841 in Martin County and
died Dec. 26, 1914 in Martin County. William J. Griffin died March 19, 1917 in Martin County, NC.

Hart, James W., Sergeant, NC Infantry, Co. I, 23rd Regiment, (Anne Elizabeth House Carroll, Grandniece)
James W. Hart was born 16 January 1841 in Granville County, NC. On 8 December 1859 he married Rebecca Frances Currin of Granville County, NC. He resided in Granville County, NC and enlisted 28 February 1862 in Jones County, NC as a PVT at age 25. He enlisted Co. I 23rd NC Regiment. Promoted to sergeant 10 October 1862. Present or accounted for until paroled at Appomattox Courthouse, VA April 9, 1865. He died 9 June 1906 in Granville County, NC.

William Washington Hart was born 17 January 1845 in Granville County, NC. Enlisted 17 June 1861 in Granville Co., NC at age 20. Mustered in as a private and promoted to corporal in March 1862 March 1864. Present or accounted for until paroled at Appomattox Courthouse, VA on April 9, 1865. On May 20, 1865 he married Sallie J. Knott in Granville County, NC. Died April 19, 1814 in Granville County, NC.

Henry J. Hester was born July 12, 1838 in Granville County, NC. On September 30, 1858 he married Martha Elliott in Granville County, NC. He enlisted at age 25 on June 17, 1861. He was mustered in as a sergeant but was reduced to ranks in May-October 1862. Present or accounted for until wounded at Seven Pines, VA on or about May 31, 1862. Returned to duty on an unspecified date. Wounded in the neck at Chancellorsville, VA May 1-4 in 1863. Returned to duty on an unspecified date and was detailed for duty with the pontoon train on August 1 1863. Reported absent on detail through October 1864. Returned to duty in November-December 1864. Present or accounted for through December 31, 1864. "Considered one of the most gallant soldiers in [the]Co[mpany]."

Robert Hester, PVT, NC Infantry, Co. I, 23rd Regiment, was born c. 1840 in North Carolina to Francis and Mary Hester. He resided in Granville County where he enlisted on June 17, 1861 at age 21. Present and accounted for until wounded at Seven Pines, Va in May of 1862. Returned to duty on an unspecified date. Present or accounted for until wounded in the left hand at Chancellorsville, VA May 3, 1863. Returned to duty and present or accounted for until paroled at Appomattox Court House April 9,1865. Nominated for the Badge of Distinction for Gallantry at Chancellorsville. He married Mollie Knott on December 17, 1865 in Granville County, NC.

Hester, Thomas B., PVT, NC Infantry, Co. H, 23rd Regiment, (Anne Elizabeth House Carroll, Great Grandniece)
Thomas B. Hester, PVT, NC Infantry, Co. H, 23rd Regiment, was born 1829 to Francis and Mary Hester of Granville County, NC. He married Catharine Satterwhite on May 7, 1850 in Granville County. He was a farmer by occupation and died November 9, 1905 in Wilkes County, NC. He enlisted at age 33 as a private in Iredell County, NC on September 7, 1862 and was present and accounted for through December 1854.

William F. Hester, PVT, NC Infantry, Co. F, 17th Regiment, was born c. 1827 in Granville Co, NC. He was the son of Francis and Mary Hester of Granville County. William F. married Rebecca Farabough on May 18, 1860 in Granville County, NC. He enlisted March 10, 1863 in Person County, NC, and was present and accounted for through October 1864. His date and place of death is unknown.
