Confederate Memorial Day 2008
We had a very good turnout at Cherry Hill Cemetery for Confederate Memorial Day on May 10th, both from our Chapter and also from the Grimes SCV Camp. A wreath was placed by both the George B. Singletary monument and the Unknown Soldiers monument. Pledges, salutes, and prayers were given by both Enoch Reid, Commander of the Grimes Camp, and by Janet N. Craig, Chaplain of our UDC chapter. Ricky Abbott read a poem, and closing prayers were given. The First Confederate Flag drape was removed and the newly refurbished Unknown Soldiers monument was unveiled and rededicated by UDC Chapter Vice President Annette MacRae.
Following the ceremony, everyone enjoyed walking through the cemetery and paying their respects to the 41 confederate soldiers we had listed on our cemetery survey. We were able to locate approximately 27 of the soldiers listed on the survey and honor them with First National Confederate Flags, along with 3 others that we found that were not included on the list, and also Ms. Louise Hyman, our Real Daughter that passed away this past January.
